For any wine business to be truly successful, it is important to maintain high quality wine products for customers.  After managing your cash flow and choosing optimally priced wines, wine storage management will need to be factored in.

As the interest for wines, wine collecting, and even unique wine storage continues to increase, customers need to be assured that the wines they buy are being stored efficiently in your commercial wine cellar.  This involves meeting the right temperature, humidity, and amount of lighting.

This is why many wine business owners look for trusted wine cellar construction specialists to design and build their commercial wine storage facility.

The Right Environment for Wines

Proper wine storage is met if the right lighting, temperature, and humidity are maintained at a constant level.  If not, you risk ruining the flavor and overall quality of your wines.

Commercial Wine Storage and Display

Bella Vita Wine Cellars partnered with Coastal Custom Wine Cellars to deliver the wine storage needs of wine bars, wine stores, hotels, and restaurants.

Below are the wine storage requirements that keep your wines safe and allow full development of their quality potential:

  1. Temperature must be within the range of 55-57 degrees Fahrenheit.  Experts agree that 57 degrees Fahrenheit is the optimum temperature for wine storage and aging.
  2. Humidity levels must be within the range of 50-60%. To maintain the ideal temperature and humidity levels, commercial wine cellars must have a wine cellar cooling system.  Check out what type of wine cellar cooling system suits your storage needs.
  3. Proper lighting must be chosen.  Wines are sensitive to light and heat.  Choose a lighting system that not only illuminates the wine  cellar, but also protects your wine from damage. The right lighting can also create a wonderful ambiance.

We recommend recessed can lights (mounted in the ceiling), Parabolic Aluminized Reflector or PAR track lighting (great as spotlight or accent lighting).

If you want indirect lighting wall sconces or chandeliers can be used. LED lighting is effective for illuminate archways, corners, and display racks.

The Right Type of Wine Racking

Wine racks for commercial settings come in various styles, sizes, capacities, and building materials.  You can choose among these types of wine racks:

  • Single Bottle Storage Wine Racks
  • Double Deep Wine Racks
  • Stackable Wine Rack Kits
  • Commercial Wine Racks

Single Bottle Storage Wine Racks

Single Bottle Storage Wine Rack stores bottles individually in each cubicle.  The cubicle openings are specifically measured to provide ease of access and solid support to the bottles.

This type of wine rack comes in different heights and sizes.  You can choose from the 6-foot series, 7-foot series, and 8-foot series.  These are available in 1-column to 10-column versions.

There are also other types of single bottle storage wine racks such as: Waterfall Cascade, Lattice X-Cube, Diamond Bins. There are many options to choose from.

You can mix and match these different wine rack designs to create a unique display and storage look.

Double Deep Wine Racks

Double Deep Wine Racks store 2 wine bottles in a row (front to back).  These are a great alternative to the standard single bottle wine racks if bulk storage is needed.

Just like the single bottle storage wine racks, the double deep wine racks are available in 1-column to 10-column versions.  Other design choices include the Curved Corner Wine Rack, Champagne and Magnum Bottle Wine Rack, Lattice X-Cube Wine Rack, and Diamond Bin Wine Rack.

Stackable Wine Racks

Stackable Wine Racks are designed to be used as either a stand-alone, or stacked on top of one another.  The height of a single stackable wine rack is 47 5/16 inches.  The stacked height would be 94 5/8 inches.

The stackable wine rack is built with additional frame enhancements to ensure ample support.  Moldings may be added to enhance the look.  Extenders can also be added if additional height is needed.

Commercial Wine Racks

Commercial wine racks are specifically designed to allow wineries, hotels, restaurants, and wine retail stores to stock and display wine products in a more organized and attractive way.

Some commercial wine racks have a single deep display that is ideal for narrow, high-traffic areas.  Most commercial wine racks have a top level display to allow customers to read the wine labels readily and comfortably.

Wooden Wine Racks and Metal Wine Racks

For the material used, you can choose between wooden and metal wine racks.  Wood and metal are the two most popular building materials used in the wine racking industry.

Wooden Wine Racks

All of the wine racks mentioned above are made of wood.  They are available in Pine, Redwood, and Mahogany.

Pine is a great choice for wooden wine racks because of its low cost, rustic look, light vanilla color, and remarkable color results when stained.  Northwestern Pine is one best type of pine used in making wooden wine racks.

Wine racks made of redwood are popular because of their aesthetic appeal.  Redwood is known for its natural beauty, subtle earth color, resistance to decay and shock, natural wood preservatives, tolerance to humid environment conditions, non-aromatic characteristic.

You can choose between All Heart Redwood, which has a more distinct dark earth color, and Premium Redwood, which has a remarkable color scheme.

Mahogany is also a popular choice because of its durability, natural color schemes, non-aromatic quality, easy handling with tools, and excellent finishing results.  Great mahogany species are Africa, Genuine, Malaysian, and Philippine Mahogany.

Many wine rack builders and customers prefer Malaysian Mahogany because of the variations in color (salmon, beige, reddish brown, and dark brown), distinct and even wood grain patterns, and attractive lustrous finishing results.

Metal Wine Racks

If your wine store, hotel, or restaurant has a contemporary theme, metal wine racks are the perfect choice as your wine storage and display fixture.

With metal wine racks, there are almost endless design possibilities that are guaranteed to attract attention.

Metal wine racks promote open air flow around the wine bottles, which results to effective liquid temperature distribution.  In addition, metal wine racks allow for immediate bottle recognition.
